Miami, United States, 2008

The project grows on the ambition to extend the park, surrounding the Pump Station with attractive green public spaces and clearing the views into the water through a chirurgical intervention that minimizes the construction footprint. These premisis allows the Museum Park hierarchy to remain clear, balancing between the extensive green spaces by the water and the scale of its two grand features: the Miami Art Museum and the Science Museum. We believe that, although currently an uninviting structure, the Pump Station predominant location - a standing billboard to Biscayne Boulevard - the spine of Downtown Miami, can act as a door to the future Museum Park. Thus, we proposed a permeable re-wrap of the structure, with a pavilion on top - a box of light – creating a new icon, whose singularity emphasizes the already outstanding ambience of Biscayne Boulevard. A pavilion in the park, part of the Miami Art Museum, bringing this institution into the Boulevard. A new way to relate social awareness of water conservation, relating infrastructure, art and green space in a flowing, appealing way. An open experience to everyone, on a pavilion that will grow green over time.
